February Team of the Month: West Middlesex Girls Basketball Team

West Middlesex Girls Basketball Team

We are thrilled to name the West Middlesex Girls Basketball Team as our first Team of the Month of 2019!  The Ms. Reds, coached by Mike Williams and competing in Class 2A in District 10, had an overall record of 8-1 in January, which includes going 6-0 in Region 1 play.  Other impressive wins in January included victories over District 7 4A opponent Ambridge and District 10 3A Region 4 Champion Greenville.  The lone loss in January came on a buzzer beater to District 10 5A foe Harbor Creek.

The Ms. Reds finished the regular season with an overall record of 19-3 and claimed the Region 1 crown with an undefeated 12-0 record.  In January, they nearly doubled the point total of their opponents – outscoring competitors by a 543 to 300 advantage.  The Big Reds are led by MaKennah White, a junior who scored 176 of the team’s points in January (19.6 PPG in January, 21.3 PPG for the season).  She also made school history by becoming the fourth player in program history to score 1000 points, surpassing the mark during the January 17th game versus Mercer.

The Ms. Reds are also led on the floor by senior starter Karsyn Rupert.  Junior Grace Mild is the team’s second leading scorer (8.6 PPG), and three freshman round out the usual 6 player rotation for Coach Williams.  Standout freshman point guard Emily Anthony averages over 8 points per game, while Taylor Tomko leads the team in three pointers made with 19 and 5’11” Forward Carlie Beatty brings a scoring and rebounding spark off the bench.

The girls’ teamwork and dedication on the court has secured them the 1st place spot from Region 1 for the District 10 Class 2A Tournament.  The Ms. Reds will face Cochranton High School in the quarterfinals on Saturday, February 23rd at Farrell High School.

Gilbert’s Risk Solutions is sending our best wishes to Coach Williams and the entire team throughout the playoffs!
