November Team of the Month – Sharon Tigers Football

Gilbert’s is elated to name the Sharon Football Team as our November Team of the Month!   Coached by the legendary Jim Wildman, Sharon went 4-0 in the month of November.  Their first game in November was also their first playoff game – a District 10 AAA Quarterfinal matchup against Fairview.  Sharon entered the playoffs as the 2nd seed out of Region 5 and won their first playoff tilt easily, 56-21.  Senior standout running back Jordan Wilson ran for 180 yards and 4 touchdowns, while junior quarterback Lane Voytik threw for 357 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Junior wide receivers C.J. Parchman and Ty Eilam each caught two touchdown passes.

Sharon’s semifinal matchup was against undefeated Region 6 Champion Mercyhurst Prep.  Mercyhurst Prep came into the game ranked 6th in the state in AAA, but saw their season come to an end at the hands of the Tigers.  A late Sharon interception sealed a 29-28 upset victory.  Leading Sharon’s upset was Jordan Wilson who tallied two touchdowns and 245 yards on 46 carries.

This huge win moved Sharon into the District 10 AAA Championship and set up a rematch with Grove City – the undefeated Region 5 Champion and Gilbert’s Risk Solutions October Team of the Month.  Grove City entered the game ranked 3rd in the state in AAA, but for the second straight week, a state-ranked opponent was no match for the Sharon Tigers.  Sharon avenged their loss earlier in the season with a 23-6 victory to win the District 10 AAA Championship.  Lane Voytik completed 17 of 20 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns, both to Eilam, in the victory.  Josh Torr, Jordan Volpe, and Frank Schaffer were a few of Sharon’s defensive leaders in the upset.

Sharon’s last game in November was their PIAA Quarterfinal matchup against Bald Eagle Area – the District 6 Champion.  Sharon dominated from start to finish for a 28-7 win.  Jordan Wilson again led the Tigers with 24 carries for 171 yards and two touchdowns.  This win advanced Sharon to the PIAA semifinals for the second straight year.

Sharon would see their incredible run come to an end against eventual state champion Aliquippa.

From everyone at Gilbert’s, congratulations on an incredible month of November and great job this season boys!
