At Gilbert’s Risk Solutions, we like to poke holes in a common myth: that Pennsylvania Umbrella insurance policies are only for wealthy people. While it’s true that it’s a great way for people of means to protect their assets, it’s valuable protection for just about anyone. Think that you don’t have anything of value? If you have wages that could be garnished or a nest egg stashed aside for your retirement, then you could be at risk.
In Pennsylvania, umbrella insurance is supplemental liability insurance, an additional layer of defense over and above your home or auto policies. If a third party suffers injury or property damage due to your fault, then your primary insurance will pay first. If damage exceeds your primary coverage, then the Umbrella will kick in.
Umbrella insurance also offers protection for some things that are probably not covered by your primary policy, such as libel, slander or false arrest. It can also cover gaps in your protection and will sometimes cover things that are excluded in your primary coverage.
While we’re proud to call Pennsylvania our home, we’ve helped individuals all across the country manage their risk and we look forward to helping you, too – no matter where it is that you call home.
